On the restoration of the church of S. Romerio
2 October 2023
The Swiss Television has recently broadcast an interesting interview with Dario Foppoli and Evaristo Zanolari regarding the cross-border collaboration for the restoration of the church of San Romerio, owned by the municipality of Tirano but located in Swiss territory.
The church of S. Romerio is more than 1000 years old. The role it played in the Middle Ages was crucial, and it is in light of its importance, attested by the fair number of private and public documents, some of which date back to that era, that scholars of the Middle Ages can investigate the history of the communities associated with it, such as Tirano, Poschiavo, Brusio and many other communities in Valtellina and Val Poschiavo.
The poor condition of the building has recently convinced parties interested in its conservation to join together in a common effort to save it from decay. What has been done so far and what will soon be done to recover it and restore it to its dignity as a monument of our collective history is well narrated in the documentary attach here.
I promise to keep you informed on any news that may emerge in the coming months from archaeological investigations and historical research on documentary sources regarding the building.
